Course Introduction

Bradford Dementia Group is a multi-disciplinary and multiprofessional group, committed to making a difference to policy and practice in dementia care, through excellence in research, education and training. Our mission is to work with practitioners and professionals to improve the quality of life and care for people with dementia and their families.

These programmes are suitable for people whose work (paid or voluntary) or the work of those that they manage or train brings them into contact with people with dementia. They are delivered by distance learning, making them accessible to students across the globe and are designed to be flexible to meet the needs of students who combine study with a busy working life.

Course Syllabus

Modules 2011/12: All Modules are Option (O) Modules

120 Credits equivalent to PGDip PLUS 60 Credits (1 x (O) Module):

  • A piece of empirical research (subject to completing research methods module as part of the Pg Diploma) (60 Credits) (O)
  • Practice-based Project (60 Credits) (O)

PG Diploma Distance Learning

  • The Experience of Dementia (30 Credits) (C)
  • Dementia Training: Skills and Approaches (30 Credits) (O)
  • Evidence-Based Dementia Practice (30 Credits) (O)
  • Leadership and Management (30 Credits) (O)
  • Any other relevant module available within the School (30 Credits) (O)

Special Features

  • Bradford Dementia Group has been meeting professional and practitioner needs for over 15 years. They deliver training through a variety of formats, including face-to-face short courses and a flexible range of accredited programmes delivered by distance learning. The Group has national and international recognition and has recently worked with British Standards on the development of PAS 800, the first British Standard on dementia care and has featured in a BBC documentary

Entry Requirements

Students should:

  • Normally be working in the field of dementia care or policy/ administration; AND
  • Possess a first degree or equivalent relevant qualification or appropriate experience within the field of practice
  • Have the written support of their manager to undertake the course

Level of English Required

IELTS at 6.5 or the equivalent.
