Course Introduction

The Certificate of Continuing Education in Professional Support and Certificate of Higher Education in Professional Support have been specifically designed for support workers currently employed in health and social care to build on work based competence training. These programmes will equip them for Band 3 and Band 4 support worker roles across a range of professions and sectors.

Course Introduction

120 Credits

There are two models of study available to achieve the Certificate of Higher Education in Professional Support.

Certificate of Higher Education - Model 1

This model consists of 5 Core modules (C), the 3 studied at Certificate of Continuing Education level, plus 2 additional modules.

The additional modules studied are as follows:

  • Support Skills in Specialist Contexts (40 credits) (C)
  • Introduction to Human Biology for Clinical Practice (20 credits) (C)

Certificate of Higher Education - Model 2

  • Principles of Collaborative Professional Practice (20 credits) (C)
  • Remainder of year 1 (Level 4) Professional-Specific Undergraduate Pre-Registration Course (please contact us for current available options) (100 credits) (C)

Entry Requirements

You should:

  • be currently working in a support worker role in health or social care, have a mentor in the workplace and have the support of your employer to undertake this programme
  • normally have achieved 120 UCAS points from any combination of A Levels, Vocational A Levels, BTEC, OCR and AS awards (to include at least 1 full A Level or vocational award of equal depth and volume). Applications are also welcome from students who have significant relevant work experience, but who do not meet the standard entry requirements
  • have achieved a minimum of English Language/Literature GCSE Grade C or above
  • have access to a computer as this programme is delivered through a combination of learning and teaching methods including online learning

Level of English Required

IELTS at 6.0 or equivalent
