As a prospective postgraduate student looking to start your studies with us in September 2011, you could be one of the first ever residents in our sustainable student village, The Green.
This unique student village will be ready just in time for you to move in and offers a superb chance to live in a groundbreaking scheme heralded as a blueprint for eco-friendly and sustainable community living. It aims to be the first student accommodation with a BREAAM ‘Outstanding’ rating – the highest award for sustainable building development.
What’s more, of all UK Universities, Bradford is by far the most inexpensive University where your money can go further. With our accommodation being the lowest-cost, it also has the cheapest private halls, and survival costs (food and going out) are the lowest*.
Made up of high-quality townhouses and apartments with both en-suite and shared bathroom accommodation available, the village will have a real community feel. It is set in beautiful landscaped gardens with plenty of places to socialise or just relax with a book.
Containing a total of 1,026 bedrooms, the sustainable student village has been designed to revolutionise the way students in University accommodation interact and take care of each other. Clever design features such as gardens and patio areas, built-in barbeques and central places to meet and eat are to be used to create a truly integrated community.
The accommodation is set near the heart of our city campus, just a short walk from key academic facilities and a wide range of retail, leisure and entertainment offerings.
There are 34 townhouses, each of which has 12 bedrooms and six bathrooms. On the ground floor is a large open-plan living space, a kitchen, dining room and living room. On each of the floors above are four bedrooms and two bathrooms.
The apartments provide accommodation in six en-suite bedrooms with shared kitchen/dining living space. The bathrooms include WC, sink and shower. For students living away from home for the first time the apartment design provides a welcoming and sociable environment.
The Green facilities include:
• Fully-furnished single study-bedrooms each containing a bed designed with integrated storage, wardrobe, desk with study light, drawers with one lockable drawer, shelving, and internet point
• Laundry facilities (washing and drying) on site – this facility is coin-operated
• 24-hour security, information and advice point
• Social meeting area with vending provision and built-in BBQ sets
At todays pricing, townhouse rental will cost £85.55 per week and apartments will cost £93 per week, both exclusive of utilities charges.
Rental charges include:
• Contents insurance
• Unrestricted access to the internet, of a similar standard as that provided by the University on campus
• 24-hour security
• Bicycle parking
• Provision of kitchen, laundry and social meeting areas
• Warden and pastoral care support
• Help desk and information point
• Parking for students and visitors with mobility problems and all who possess a Blue Badge
There are a very small number of general car parking spaces but parking is available for loading and unloading at the start and end of term.
All students are now required to pay a deposit/initial payment when they accept an offer of a room in University accommodation. Whether this is a returnable deposit or an initial rent payment depends upon which accommodation you are offered: information on the accommodation offer sent out to students will clarify this. Where a deposit is paid, it will be returned to students at the end of the contract period provided that all accommodation charges have been paid. The payment will secure the room for you.
