News
and ViewsNews & Views is the external stakeholder magazine of the University of Bradford.
It aims to inform those who have influence on, or an interest in, the University by offering a regular digest of news alongside more in-depth features and regular items covering such areas as research, knowledge transfer, success stories, individual profiles (i.e. of staff, honorary graduates and alumni), events and campaigns.
News & Views is written primarily for an external readership, which aims to promote the University of Bradford, and build its reputation amongst key stakeholders. It is also circulated to staff around campus as key stakeholders of the University.
N&Vs is produced three times during the academic year:
Exact dates are available on request from the Press Office. Email: press@bradford.ac.uk
Story ideas, submissions, letters to the editor, obituaries etc. should be sent to Emma Banks (contact details). Whilst every story idea will be considered, we cannot guarantee that every story will appear.
A story is unlikely to appear if its principle audience is internal i.e. staff of the University, as N&Vs is not an internal newsletter. Submissions of this nature should be sent to the weekly Staff Briefing (details below).
As editorial needs to be planned, researched, written and approved, staff are asked to submit stories by the following dates:
Marketing and Communications are able to book professional photographers to take pictures for N&Vs. So, if you story is visual, we can help illustrate it in print.
Where possible, we will look to avoid taking 'group shots' i.e. a line up of people posing for a photograph. We are also looking to reduce the number of 'posed' shots of people in favour of a more dynamic 'in situ' style of photography.
We are always grateful if staff are able and/or inclined to take their own photographs for N&Vs, but we would ask them to please be aware of this policy on photography.
We are also interested in illustrating stories using artist's impressions, technical drawings, artwork, animation, cartoons and screen grabs.
Ideally, all images need to be in jpeg format and be of 300 dots per inch (DPI) resolution so that they can be reproduced in good quality.
News & Views' Noticeboard page allows anyone to submit a small advert of around 30 words to plug their product or service. It costs £5 for members of staff and £15 for non-staff per issue. To place something on the Noticeboard, get in touch.
This is a regular briefing which goes to all staff within the University carrying internal news items only. If you have email access on campus you will receive the briefing as a single email, usually on a Monday.
The briefing is also available on the web usually from Monday lunchtime at www.bradford.ac.uk/briefing
Send an email to briefing@bradford.ac.uk with the words for the briefing in the header, including the information that you would like to go in the briefing, or telephone ext: 6510 with the details, or call into Room D16 Richmond.
The deadline for entries into the following week's briefing is 12 noon
every Friday.
