Peace takes on War in clash of the titans
11 May 09
Peace Studies and War studies will meet for the 'Tolstoy Cup' at Woodhall Sports Ground, Bradford, on Saturday, 16 May 2009 at 12pm.
The University of Bradford's very own Peace Studies FC and War Studies FC from Kings College London will both be looking for victory when they take to the pitch in a game of football which promises to be a battle of war versus peace.
The undefeated Peace Studies team is made from players at all academic levels, including undergraduates, MA and PhD students. There is also a mix of nationalities in the team, including players from Japan, Germany, Nigeria and the Netherlands.
Although it is a competitive game of football, the organisers look forward to welcoming the War Studies contingent to Bradford and giving them a good day out. There will be a large colourful crowd there to cheer the two teams on.
Final year student and Peace Studies FC Captain Chris Britt-Searle, 22, said: "It's going to be a great day out. There has never been any love lost on the pitch in previous matches and this year will be no different! In the professional world of football, the season is drawing to a close and every goal counts. Whilst we're not professionals the importance for us is just as important!
"This is about everyone having a good day out and building the tradition of the annual War Vs Peace fixture. We also hope to raise some money for University of Bradford Amnesty Society."
Peace Studies FC will be providing a minibus to Woodhall Sports Ground at 11am and back again after the match. The bus will leave from The Courtyard bar on the University campus. A small charge will apply, with all proceeds going to charity.
