Masters Scholarships 2015/16

The University offers a number of scholarships for MSc and LLM students to help with the funding of tuition fees.

Applicants are normally eligible for a maximum of one scholarship or bursary from the University. Where candidates are eligible for more than one scholarship they will be offered the one of highest value.

Postgraduate Support Scheme

100 full fee scholarships for 2015/16 entry

As part of the Government's Postgraduate Support Scheme for September 2015 entry, the University of Bradford is pleased to be able to offer more than 100 scholarships for taught postgraduate courses for UK/EU students. (Not including MBA and related programmes)

The scheme aims to aid progression to postgraduate education and is intended as a bridge until loans for postgraduate studies are available in 2016/17.


  • Scholarships will cover course fees plus a maintenance grant of £4,600
  • Students will also be able to apply for the University of Bradford Postgraduate Bursary of £500 if they meet the eligibility criteria
  • The scholarships are for UK and EU students paying their own fees who are studying a Master’s course full or part-time

Priority will be given to students who:

  • are care leavers
  • are from low-income backgrounds (in receipt of a maintenance grant during their undergraduate studies, priority will be given to students on full grants)
  • have a disability and have been in receipt of Disabled Students Allowances as an undergraduate
  • are from an under-represented group on specific courses/in specific Faculties

Merit Scholarships

Worth up to 50% of tuition fee.
Merit scholarships worth up to 50% of tuition fees are available to support and encourage high calibre self-funding students for entry to a full-time MSc or LLM programme based at the School of Management and School of Law.

For these awards, we focus on rewarding the potential contribution a student brings to the programme and its cohort, evaluating not just academic excellence, but work and personal achievements also.

How to apply: You do not need to make a separate application for the scholarship. Simply complete your programme application form and you will be automatically assessed for a Merit Scholarship. Awards will be announced shortly after the scholarship application deadline on Sunday 10th May 2015

Country specific scholarships

£2000 fee scholarships for students (not EU) who are nationals of countries that are defined by the World Bank as having low-income or low to middle income economies. More details

Academic Excellence scholarships

Academic-related fee scholarships based on your entry qualifications are automatically assessed upon application, with awards of £1,500 for UK/EU students and up to £3,500 for International studentsMore details

Scholarships for Chinese students

Ma Kam Ming Scholarship Fund
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for up to 4 Chinese students to receive a full-fee, travel and living expenses scholarship in honour of the Ma Kam Ming family’s generous benefaction. The award is exclusively available to School of Management full-time MSc students only. More details

China full and half fee scholarships
10 Full-fee and 25 half-fee scholarships are available for self-funding Chinese students studying a full-time MSc or LLM course based at Bradford. More details

Global Development Scholarship

Two scholarships (worth approximately £20,000) are available to aid students in financial hardship due to the fact that they are domiciled in a country that is in crisis as a result of the political situation, war, natural disaster etc. More details

Postgraduate Bursary

A £500 bursary is available for self-funding Home/EU students on a full-time MSc or LLM programme who have recently graduated from an undergraduate programme in England, and have received support towards their fees from the Local Authority or the Student Loans Company. More details

Alumni Discount

Self funded or part-self funded Bradford alumni applying to study a full-time or part-time MSc or LLM programme, will qualify for a discount on the self-funded element of their fees of:
25% discount for undergraduate alumni with 1st Class honours
20% discount for undergraduate alumni with 2(i) Class honours
15% discount for undergraduate alumni with 2(ii) Class honours

Company-sponsored study bursaries

A Business relationship bursary of up to 35% is available for companies who have supported or worked with the School who are sponsoring or part-sponsoring an MSc or LLM student. The amount will depend on the strength of the relationship, which might include companies who have previously funded a student on a Bradford programme, employed a placement student, facilitated a student project, employed a member of faculty to produce a KTP or research project or commissioned an Executive Education programme. The list is not exhaustive and other business engagement activities could be considered eligible.
