As a part-time student you will, over two academic years (72 weeks), attend the School of Management on one afternoon and evening per week (normally a Tuesday in Year 1 and Monday in Year 2), starting in September each year.

Stage 1

The programme has a broadly based first year and comprises three 20-credit modules.

You take compulsory modules in:

  • Leading, Managing and Developing People (20 credits)
  • HRM in Context (20 credits)
  • Employment Law (20 credits)

The course is flexible in that you can decide at the end of the 1st year whether you wish to exit with a Postgraduate Diploma after 2 years or continue on into your 3rd year by completing your dissertation and achieving an MSc.

Stage 2

More strategic and specialist modules are offered in the second year, which differs depending on whether you choose to study the Postgraduate Diploma or the MSc.

Those following the PGDip route will take compulsory modules in:

  • Developing Skills for Business Leadership (10 credits)
  • Human Resource Development (10 credits)
  • Employee Relations (10 credits)
  • Investigating a Business Issue from a HR Perspective (20 credits)

+ 1 Elective Module (10 credits)

Those following the MSc route will take compulsory modules in:

  • Developing Skills for Business Leadership (10 credits)
  • Human Resource Development (10 credits)
  • Employee Relations (10 credits)
  • Research Methods (10 credits)

+ 2 Elective Modules (20 credits)

Stage 3

Students continuing to the MSc will complete a 22,000-word dissertation in year three for the additional 60 credits required.

Note: The offer of particular modules is subject to sufficient numbers of students selecting them. Modules may not be run with low student numbers.
