Computer-based learning
The MSc in Finance places strong emphasis on computer-based learning.
After starting with an introduction to Microsoft Excel, you are soon taken into sophisticated spreadsheet applications in finance. Finally, you are taught to use the embedded VBA programming code in Excel to solve advanced financial problems.
Output from VBA code developed during the Financial Modelling course to price equity options.
Statistical issues are examined in Excel as well as S-Plus, which is specialist software that is widely used in the investment industry.
As well as using the extensive financial data available on the
internet, you have access to a number of subscription-based specialist
financial data services. Near real-time international financial
market data is made available through Thomson Markets, while more
historic data for research purposes is accessed through Thomson
Datastream. Accounting data is accessed through FAME and Thomson
One Banker.
