Course overview
Law is a dynamic subject that is centrally concerned with people and society. It affects almost everything we do in our working and social lives - and new laws are being created all the time. People who study law not only learn about what the legal principles and rules are and how they are applied, but also discuss what these principles and rules should and should not try to achieve in order to make society function as efficiently and fairly as possible.
Our LLB degree enables you to study the seven foundations of legal knowledge, together with a wide range of other specialised law and law-related subjects. Links with business and business law are an important feature of the course. There is also the opportunity for you to combine your study of law with optional modules in business and management and criminology.
Special features
- Set up in 2005, we are a young Law School that boasts a range of traditional and non-traditional teaching methods to support your studies. We make extensive use of the latest learning technologies. In particular, our Blackboard virtual learning environment complements lectures and seminars with extensive additional information and learning opportunities for all modules.
- Criminal law, human rights law and intellectual property law are currently the subjects of lively debate in law circles, and we have particular expertise in these areas. Our Director of Legal Studies, Professor Chris Gale, is an expert in two subjects of growing international importance - applied human rights and sport and the law.
- We are located in the delightful parkland setting of the University's Heaton campus. Only 5km from the attractions of the city centre and main University campus, it offers an ideal location for study and reflection.
