12 June 2009 - Bradford UNESCO 'City of Film': staff and students produce win bid video
Bradford has been announced as the world's first UNESCO City of Film, in a bid supported by the University, Friday 12 June.
It might have been unexpected news for the outside world but not for Ian Palmer, Dean of the School of Computing, Informatics and Media (SCIM) who has been a board member supporting the bid since the project was first started in 2007, nor Simula Media Services who produced the video that went with the bid.

Ian said: "This UNESCO award will boost our profile for students wishing to study film or digital media at Bradford. As a University we were one of the first in the UK to recognise the importance of digital technology in media production. When it comes to enjoying and studying film, the University is heavily involved in the festivals that the Museum hosts, both in terms of using facilities such as the Norcroft centre and the Great Hall during Bradford Animation Festival, to staff interviewing and hosting events at the Bradford International Film Festival.
"These links should continue to grow, bringing high profile speakers and event to the City and the University. We also believe that being the world's first 'City of Film' will also attract those who want to study film in a more formal way, for example through our Film Studies BA, or one of our Media MAs."
