Heritage Open Day
Thursday 9 September 2010 - 'A Tale of Two Buildings' - A Guided Tour of Heaton Mount and Emm Lane
Heritage Open Days 2010 in Yorkshire offers you the choice of over 280 properties to explore.
As part of this national event, Bradford University School of Management, on 9 September, will open its doors to the public, offering a rare glimpse of its two 19th C buildings.
The two buildings share the 13 acres of parkland in what is now Bradford University School of Management. Heaton Mount, built in the 19th C, was once the home of one of Bradford's wool dynasties, the Ambler family. This Victorian stately house is now used primarily for conferences and the School's executive education programme. Originally Airedale Theological College, the sites second building, also built in the 19th C, is now known as Emm Lane. It is one of the finest examples of Neo gothic Architecture in the region, its imposing façade fronts an expansive circular lawn and the Emm Lane entrance to the School's Campus.
In addition the recently completed campus redevelopment and Sir Titus Salt building will be included in the guided tour. The redevelopment joins together a number of exciting buildings, integrating Victorian and contemporary architecture and has given a 'heart' to the campus.
Members of the public are invited to attend a short lecture given by Councillor J Stanley King, The Lord of the Manor of Heaton, entitled 'Gems in the Heaton Crown'. There will also be an opportunity to tour the campus entitled 'A Tale of Two Buildings'.
