PebblePad is the University’s e-portfolio system. Not all students at the University will use PebblePad but those that do generally find out about it as part of their course. If you want to know about PebblePAD please see the main PebblePad support site at the University.
There is now a mobile friendly web version that will work on just about any mobile phone that has a web browser. So that you don’t have to remember the link, we’ve incorporated it into the About UoB App, as well as linking to it from our mobile website www.braduni.mobi.
The only potential cost of using the mobile web version of PebblePad is data charges from your mobile phone network. If you have a contract which includes a web browsing ‘bundle’ usage of PebblePad Mobile will be taken out of your bundle. However, if you don’t have an inclusive data contract it is worth checking with your mobile phone provider before using so you don’t get any unexpected bills.
If you have an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad you will not currently be able to upload a photo or other file type into PebblePad as this functionality is not supported by the Safari web browser in iOS. You can get around this by purchasing the PebblePad iPhone App from the App Store (see below).
There is a specific iPhone-only App that gives students access to their PebblePad account from their iPhone. There is a cost associated to buying this App and it is therefore recommended that students use the mobile web version first and only buy this App if they decide they need it. One the whole, the free web based mobile version has greater functionality so the main reason for buying the App would be to enable the uploading of files and pictures which is not possible through an iPhone web browser. It's even possible to fill out PebblePad Proformas by tagging them from a PC as 'Mobile' and then editing them from your iPhone.
Please be aware that the PebblePad app is not made by the University and is actually a 3rd party commercial offering. As such there is a charge of £1.79 to download it from the App Store. The app also uses the internet connection on your iPhone, so depending on your phone tariff you may be charged for data usage by your network.
It's not necessary to have this app or an iPhone to complete and get a good grade on any course at the University. The PebblePad app merely offers additional convenience to PebblePad users which some students may find worthwhile for the small cost of the app.
