Welcome to the School of Life Sciences

We are the largest school in the University and comprise a mixture of academic divisions, research centers and outreach facilities.

We provide high-quality teaching with a professional focus and engage in cutting-edge research – which we seek to apply through our extensive links with industry and business.

Most of our undergraduate courses are accredited by professional bodies and thereby enable our graduates to enter specific careers for example as Pharmacists, Optometrists or Biomedical Scientists. A significant number of our staff are themselves qualified practitioners in these areas and have a particular interest in new and innovative approaches to teaching and learning. We also provide a wide range of postgraduate taught and research courses.

Many of our academics are active researchers and even our international research experts continue to teach so that our students experience the excitement surrounding new discoveries and are aware of the latest developments long before they appear in textbooks. Our students also benefit from working on real research projects in laboratories, clinical placements, industrial facilities and archaeological excavations.

Our videos will introduce you to some of our students, staff and facilities, however I invite you to visit us in person to get a real feel for what we have to offer.
