The Quaker Collection

This Special Collection comprises rare printed books and pamphlets about the history, beliefs and practices of the Religious Society of Friends (commonly known as Quakers). Recent donations of volumes from Skipton and Settle Friends' Meeting House Libraries have been much appreciated in enhancing the collection.

Besides general works on the history and development of Quakerism, there are biographies and memoirs of many individual Quakers. There is a particular emphasis on the Quaker peace testimony, which links to Peace Studies at the University of Bradford. Most works date from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

The provenance of the volumes can also be an important historical resource. Many of our volumes were once owned by Yorkshire Meeting House Libraries such as Airton and Lothersdale, or presented by individual Quakers to meeting houses or fellow Quakers.

Works in this Collection can be found on the Library catalogue.
