The Davina Miller Archive on the Scott Inquiry

The Inquiry into the Export of Defence Equipment and Dual-Use Goods to Iraq and Related Prosecutions was set up in November 1992 to establish whether all parts of the UK government were following agreed government policy on defence exports to Iraq, following the collapse of the trial of Matrix Churchill, a firm suspected of breaching export control guidelines. The Report of the Inquiry by Sir Richard Scott was published in February 1996.

Davina Miller, of the Department of Peace Studies, University of Bradford, has donated an extensive collection of notes and photocopies on the Scott Inquiry assembled in preparation for her PhD thesis at Lancaster University. The thesis was later developed into a book, "Export or die: Britain's defence trade with Iran and Iraq" (London: Cassell, 1996). The collection includes Matrix Churchill trial transcripts, Scott Inquiry transcripts and relevant Parliamentary papers.

Further information about the Archive is available as a collection-level entry on the Library catalogue. For more information or to use the Archive, please contact the Special Collections staff.

Please note that the Archive does not include the Inquiry Report. This was published by H.M.S.O. in 1996 (House of Commons papers, 1995-96; 115. ISBN 0102627967) and is held in government publication collections in public and academic libraries.
