The Kennet Peace Archive

A collection of sheets from the "BBC Summary of World Broadcasts" and press-cuttings, arranged into 193 subject files. Most of these cover international relations, some are on nuclear arms control and on pollution. It is understood that the articles were collected by Lord Kennet.

Wayland Hilton Young, 2nd Baron Kennet, was born in 1923. Educated at Stowe and Trinity College, Cambridge, he served in the Navy from 1942-1945 and entered the Foreign Office in 1946. He was Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Housing and Local Government 1966-1970, Opposition spokesman on foreign affairs and science policy 1971-1974, a Member of the European Parliament 1978-1979, and SDP spokesman in the House of Lords on foreign affairs and defence 1981-1990. He has published many books and pamphlets on subjects including defence, disarmament, the environment, and architecture.
