Library CD-ROM Service

How to Access Library CD-ROMs

To access CD-ROMs:

  1. Go to CD-ROM A-Z list
  2. Choose any title you are interested in looking at
  3. Enter your University username and password in the Login boxes and click Logon

The service may require pop-ups to be allowed in order to function properly. Follow your browser’s instructions to enable pop-ups. If you have additional toolbars installed (e.g. Google or Yahoo) you will need to enable pop-ups in these too.

To use the CD-ROM service you will need to install the CD-ROM Service plugin (also known as Citrix ICA Web Client). If you do not already have the plugin installed on your computer you will be prompted to install it the first time you access the service. Follow the on screen instructions to install the plugin. Alternatively you can download and install the plugin before accessing the service:

Installing the Plugin

PC Users

  • Download the Windows CD-ROM plugin
  • Save the plugin to a temporary directory on your hard drive (e.g. c:\temp)
  • Close your browser and open Windows Explorer/My Computer
  • Go to the temporary directory where you saved the plugin
  • Double click on the plugin. The plugin will now automatically install itself on your hard drive. The process will finish with a message about setup being successful
  • When you have installed the plugin, restart your web browser
  • Mac Users

There are two Citrix plugins available for Apple Macs - PowerMacs (including iMacs, G3 and G4s) and 68k Macs (Quadra, etc).

    1. Go to the Citrix Website and choose the ICA Macintosh Client.
    2. Agree to the licence agreement that follows and you will get to a page listing the available clients.
    3. Pick either the PowerPC or 68k client depending on your mac and it should start the download. With later macs the HQX file should extract itself and place a folder on your desktop. With older ones you may need a copy of stuffit expander.
    4. In the desktop folder there is an installer. Run that and it will install the Citrix client to deal with x-ica application files as used by the CD-ROM service.
