Entry Requirements

The University of Bradford is pleased to welcome applicants from Bahrain. When you apply we will consider your educational qualifications, your English level and, in some cases, your relevant work experience. Entry requirements will vary according to the course you are applying for but we hope the following information will be useful as a guide to our entry requirements.

Bachelor's/Undergraduate Study

al Shahâda al-Thânawiyya al-cÄmma (Certificate of General Secondary Education)
Bradford welcomes students who have completed their Thânawiyya (Grade XII Certificate) to apply for Bradford’s International Foundation Year prior to starting the first year of an undergraduate degree. To join the International Foundation Year you should have obtained an overall average of at least 70% in your Thânawiyya. Additionally, a minimum IELTS score of 5.5 or TOEFL 72 IBT, 200 CBT or 520 PBT is required.

International Foundation Year Programme
The International Foundation Year is a pre-degree programme designed specifically for international students who have finished high school but do not have the necessary academic or English qualifications to start an undergraduate degree at the University of Bradford.

It is structured to meet the individual needs of international students and will be tailored to enhance your existing academic and English qualifications. With guidance from the course tutor, you will be able to choose modules that interest you and will help you prepare for your undergraduate degree, constructing a learning programme that is both challenging and stimulation.

Upon successful completion of the International Foundation Year, you can progress directly onto Year One of a range of degree programmes. Please note progression to Business and Management programmes is subject to receiving 60% or above in the International Foundation Year.

A-Level and International Baccalaureate
Bradford also welcomes A-Level and IB students from International Schools for direct entry to the first year of an undergraduate degree. Please note direct entry onto Year 1 of an undergraduate degree is subject to meeting course specific entry requirements. To find out course specific entry requirements, please contact our Regional Office in Dubai.

If you do not quite achieve the level required for direct entry to the first year of your chosen course, it may be possible for us to offer you a place on our International Foundation Year Programme.

Other Academic Qualifications
If you currently hold an academic qualification, which is not listed on this page, please contact us and we’ll be happy to assess your educational background and let you know necessary requirements to join the University of Bradford based on your existing qualifications.

Master's/Postgraduate Study

Bradford welcomes applications for postgraduate courses from students who have completed a bachelor degree from a recognised university in Bahrain. Candidates with a good GPA (3.0 or better), having completed four-year programmes at the American University in Cairo, may be considered for admission to postgrauduate study. You will also need to provide proof of your English proficiency. The preferred qualifications are IELTS with a minimum score of 6 and TOEFL with a minimum score of 550 for paper-based, 220 for the computer based and 80 for the internet based.

*Students wishing to apply for any postgraduate courses in the School of Management (MSc, MBA) should have IELTS of 6.5 or TOEFL of 580 – paper-based, 240 - computer-based, 94 - internet-based.

Please note, unfortunately, HND qualifications cannot be accepted for entry to Master's degrees.

Bahranian students can study for Bradford’s renowned MBA in Bradford or Dubai. Prospective MBA students will need to demonstrate that they have had significant managerial experience. More information is available on the MBA website.

Students with more advanced qualifications and a well-thought out research proposal can be considered for MPhil / PhD. A research proposal is usually an outline of approximately 1,500-2,000 words, setting out the precise nature of the issue you wish to investigate. This should include a justification for your research, why the topic requires a closer look, and how it will make an original contribution to knowledge. You should describe the groundwork you have already done, and be able to show that you are familiar with the existing literature in the field, and how your work will relate to that. Finally, you should outline your proposed methodology, and indicate what materials or data you will need access to. You should also indicate how you intend to fund your studies.
