Gown hire

The academic dress you wear at your ceremony is unique to the University of Bradford and denotes the title of the award you have obtained. On the day of your ceremony you should wear smart dress and for ease of fitting your robes it is recommended that you wear a shirt with buttons. Please note you cannot participate in the Awards Ceremony without academic dress.

Gowns can be ordered on-line or by telephoning the call centre (+44 (0) 1223 861854). The cost for hiring a gown for the day is approximately £50 and a discount is usually available for on-line orders.  Please note that payment for your gown on the day can only be made via cash or cheque.

It is important that you hire your gown as you are unable to graduate at an award ceremony without it.

Gowns should be collected from and returned to the Sports Centre on the day of your ceremony.

Academic Dress

• Diploma of Higher Education
• Bachelors Award
• Undergraduate Masters (i.e. MPharm)
• Postgraduate Diplomas

Graduands receiving the above awards will wear a black gown and a hood with a saffron band appropriate to the award.

• Masters

Graduands receiving a Masters will wear a black gown and a hood fully lined with saffron.

• PhD

Doctoral robes are scarlet with a saffron-lined hood.

The mortar board forms part of the academic dress of the University, however graduands are not permitted to wear them before or during the ceremony.

Academic dress

There is no charge for gowns ordered through the University robemakers, for the academic procession, if they are ordered before the deadline of Friday 24th June 2011. The robemakers will do their best to provide the appropriate gown however, in the case of institutions outside the UK, they may provide an alternate gown.

There is no guarantee that robes will be supplied after the specified deadline.
