This course is designed for graduate level entrants who wish to specialise in - or develop their ability to provide - training or education related to dementia. It will be of particular interest to those with a responsibility for delivering Dementia Awareness training, or other in-service/induction training related to dementia, either within care organisations or through the Further Education sector.
The MSc programme will enable you to develop your skills in delivering dementia training, design and develop learning materials, and understand theories and principles of adult learning. In the final year you will complete a practice based project on a subject relevant to your own field of dementia training or educational practice. In the process you will gain important skills in constructing sound arguments and demonstrating familiarity with academic literature and evidence to support your practice as an educator.
The course is delivered by open and distance learning. The course materials are delivered online, this means that you can study at times to suit you in your own home. There are two days of attendance at the University of Bradford.

Year three consists of a single 60 credit dissertation module related dementia training or educational practice, which you will complete under individual supervision from a member of the course team
This course starts in September each year. The academic year runs from September to June and is divided into two Semesters: September to February and February to June.
You should either be working in a field which allows you to deliver training related to dementia on a regular basis, and to a variety of learners, or be able to arrange to do so on a voluntary basis.
You must have experience of working in the field of dementia care, on a paid or voluntary basis, . You should possess a first degree in a relevant subject or equivalent e.g. National Qualifications Framework Level 6, and GCSE grade C or equivalent English language. You must also have access to a computer with internet connection and be prepared to spend on average 15 hours a week on your studies.
(Applicants who do not have the above qualifications should speak to the Course Leader as it may be possible to arrange to submit other evidence of ability.)
Applicants whose first language is not English should have IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
