New to Nursing?

A career in nursing will enable you to work in an environment which is interesting, rewarding and challenging. Nurses are the largest group of staff in the NHS and work in a variety of healthcare settings from accident and emergency to patients' homes.

Nursing attracts people from a variety of age groups, backgrounds and cultures. To work as a nurse, you must hold a degree or diploma in nursing (a 'pre-registration' programme), which leads to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).  Some nurses work their way up from support roles in healthcare settings and  then go on to train for a registered nursing degree or diploma, which qualifies them to work as a nurse. Others apply straight to university to undertake their studies.

Our nursing degree and diploma programmes at Bradford include 50% theory and 50% practice, so your time will be spent at the School of Health Studies and at various placement settings. The School of Health Studies at the University of Bradford  is ranked 5th by the Times Good University Guide and 8th in the UK and the best in West Yorkshire and Humber Strategic Health Authority by The Guardian.
