The University of Bradford has a responsibility to ensure that the research it supports is carried out in conformity with the law and in accordance with the best current practices. This document addresses the quality of research and the research environment within the University, and sets out the general principles on quality of work that all research staff, at all levels, are expected to uphold, whether conducting research entirely within the University, or in collaborations with other individuals or organisations, in the UK or abroad.

These regulations apply to all Members of the University as defined by University Statute (including registered undergraduate and postgraduate students), other staff of the University not so defined, and any persons conducting research on the University's premises, or making use of the University's research facilities. In this Code, the term `University researcher' is used to cover all these categories. Members of the University and other staff not defined as Members of the University are bound by this policy at all times and at all locations in which they are undertaking research under the aegis of the University, whether at the University or at another location either within or outside the United Kingdom.
All University researchers have a duty to society, their profession, to the University and to those funding their research, to conduct their research in the most conscientious and responsible manner possible, in accordance with the requirements of various agencies (including external and internal audit), funding bodies, standards in public life set out by the Nolan Committee and the law.
All University researchers must acquaint themselves with and follow the University's Code of Practice for Ethics in Research and be aware of the Procedure for considering Alleged Misconduct.
The University has a legal responsibility to respond appropriately when matters are brought forward regarding alleged breaches of this Code, and to protect the individual/s who raise such a concern. This document sets out the procedures to be followed.
