Bradford Raw

BRADFORD RAW | John Bolloten

Richmond Atrium
7 Nov 2011 - 24 Feb 2012

Bradford is a richly diverse city home to an estimated one hundred different nationalities. Living in harmony with each other goes beyond notions of race, religion and ethnicity.

When we are confronted with the faces of our neighbours, what do we really see? Is it a friend, enemy, or even a threat?

These frank and intimate portraits question what we see and what we might assume. They are all portraits of ordinary people who currently call Bradford their home and are a testament to the journeys of photographer John Bolloten. They stand as a truthful account of one person's exchange with another and challenge us to look again, with an equal and impartial gaze, if this is indeed possible.

Look into my eyes / Tell me what you see /
Can you feel my pain / Am I your enemy?
[Bounty Killer Look Into My Eyes, Madhouse Records, Jamaica]

Gallery II invites you to meet the artist at 1pm, Sunday 20 November 2011, for a tour of the exhibition in Richmond Atrium followed by an informal talk at 2pm in the Treehouse Cafe.
