Law Clinic
Giving the public legal advice and students real-life experience.
Our Law Clinic, Justice Bradford, gives students an opportunity to put theory into practice with real-life cases.
Members of the public are able to access legal advice where they have not been able to get legal support elsewhere.
Students work with academics, legal professionals and local organisations including the Citizens Advice Bureau and Girlington Advice Centre, to provide legal support to those who need it.
The Law Clinic provides free comprehensive legal advice to members of the public including issues such as:
- Family matters such as divorce, property disputes or disputes about children.
- Employment issues.
- Civil disputes such as contract or consumer issues.
- Neighbour disputes.
- Inheritance and probate disputes.
There is an unmet legal need in the Bradford district due to reductions in the availability of free legal aid. The Law Clinic provides students the chance to gain experience whilst helping members of their local community.
Students receive training to work in teams and interviews members of the public. They then undertake research on each case, utilising the skills learnt through studies, before preparing advice for clients under the guidance of academics and legal professionals.

Providing students with practical experience of law in action
The Law Clinic gives students the chance to deal with real cases with real clients.
Throughout their education at the University of Bradford, School of Law students will develop skills and knowledge that will serve them well in their future careers. The practical application of what they learn is essential to their development and the development of young lawyers.
The Law Clinic provides students with the opportunity to apply their learning whilst developing essential skills such as teamwork. It also allows them to understand the wider practicalities of legal practice such as client confidentiality, legal ethics and record keeping.
The Law Clinic provides students with first-hand, hands-on experience of advising clients which would undoubtedly prove invaluable in any career they choose after graduating.

Partners
The Law Clinic operates in collaboration with Bradford and Airedale Citizens Advice Bureau and Girlington Advice Centre and is supported by Proctor & Hobbs.
As partners they provide support to students as they provide tailored legal advice to clients. This supports students in gaining hands-on clinical legal experience through their education - 'Delivering education through public service'.
The Law Clinic gave me an opportunity to interact directly with people affected by the blunt end of the legal aid reforms.
