Part-time Students
At Bradford you can study part-time
through day or evening courses taught across a range of subject areas.
There is a free and confidential guidance service in the School
of Lifelong Education and Development to help you with your course
and career choices (Tel: 01274 233210).
At the time of going to press,
Government policy on funding for part-time students on low incomes will
be entitled to fee-waiver or fee reduction schemes. In addition a small
grant may be available for part-time undergraduates, who can also apply
to the University Access to Learning Fund, for help towards costs associated
with study.
Part-time students can fully
utilise the flexibility that the Credit Accumulation and Transfer Scheme
(CATS) brings to Higher Education. You may bring relevant credit with
you gained from previous study and have it count towards your degree.
This same CATS scheme can help if your personal or work circumstances
change and you need to transfer to another course at Bradford, or elsewhere
in the country.
A
number of full-time courses at Bradford admit part-time students, who
have achieved a relevant Certificate of Higher Education, on to the second
year of their course. Alternatively, some part-time students choose to
leave with a Certificate or Diploma of Higher Education rather than complete
an entire degree.

Associate Student Scheme
If you are unsure whether you
want to study on a complete degree course, you can enrol initially as
an Associate Student. The scheme
allows you to study alongside existing degree students where you will
gain credits for successful completion of individual course modules. Your
credit can be used to obtain advanced standing on that course, or you
can use it as evidence of your ability to study at degree level. You can
even register as an Associate Student if you just want to complete one
specific module to update your existing skills. Associate students enrolling
at undergraduate level do not necessarily require formal qualifications.
The fee you will have to pay
is dependent on the number of modules you choose to take. In 2003/2004,
if you wished to take a single module you could expect to pay approximately
£78 for an undergraduate-level module.
