Background |
| The University of Bradford
received its Royal Charter in 1966 but can trace its roots back to 1832,
with the formation of the Mechanics Institute.
From the very beginning, emphasis
was placed on courses leading to the highest professional
qualifications and today the University remains committed to courses that
relate to the real world reflected in its motto 'Making Knowledge Work'.
Under the guidance of our first Chancellor, Lord (Harold) Wilson, the
University grew in stature and rapidly developed a strong international
reputation in fields spanning science, health,
management, social sciences
and engineering.
More recently, the University
has developed new and cutting-edge courses in areas such as Peace
Studies, Electronic Imaging and
Media Communications, Pharmaceutical
Management, Chemical and
Forensic Sciences, Clinical
Sciences, Cybernetics,
Medical Engineering, Psychology
and Law.
The University is based close
to the city centre of Bradford and has three campuses: the main city centre
campus at Richmond Road, the School of Health Studies
at Unity Building, a few minutes' walk away, and the School
of Management, based on its own 14-acre campus two miles from the
city campus.
