Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer)

Professor Coates has been in the University for 26 years, and has been much involved in the successful restructuring of Engineering, Design & Technology as well as leading one of the largest research operations in the University, plus a wide range of external responsibilities as a journal editor and with professional institutions in the UK and abroad.

He said: "It is a privilege and challenge as an active researcher, and Director of both the world-class Polymer IRC and Polymer CIC, to help lead the combined Research, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer activities of this University.

"I am well aware of the requirements for quality of research and its exploitation, with strong delivery of knowledge transfer, and look forward to ensuring that our best and emerging research flourishes and delivers at the highest levels. I look forward to the support of staff for this vital area of our University life."
