Interview with Ron Harle
- Learner Support Services, R.Harle@Bradford.ac.uk, 01274 234990
"I work in Learner Support Services (LSS), a support department of the University. My original involvement was because, as Head of Career Development Services, I have a link with employers and it was important the two came together. I have been involved in various University developments over the years concerning what our profile is and where things are going to go in the future.
"I've allocated some time for one of the Careers Advisors to develop a Postgraduate Certificate in Entrepreneurship, Employability and Enterprise. We're aiming to launch that in September as part of the Escalate Programme.
"Escalate will bring a different approach to the Bradford region. There are some vocational courses at Bradford College, but if people locally want a University experience related to their work they have to go to Huddersfield or Leeds. We need to make that provision available here.
"Escalate is about recognising the talent you might already have in your organisation, and the potential that talent might give you in further development and growth. Organisations can't afford not to utilise the tools that are there, particularly in this economic climate. Brave employers take the opportunity of finding ways to get growth when they've got that window of opportunity.
"I think the key thing at the moment is to say: Where do we use people in this organisation? How do we need to use them in the future? Is there anything missing? Can Escalate provide an answer?"
