BSc in Financial Planning

After discussions between the Bradford University School of Management and the Yorkshire Independent Financial Advisor Forum (YIFA) a new BSc in Financial Planning is being developed to address the knowledge and skills needs of the Independent Financial Advisory (IFA) profession.

In addition to their BSc graduates will also have Chartered Insurance Institute (CII)'s Certificate in Financial Planning and substantial credits towards the CII¿s Diploma in Financial Planning. The degree will therefore provide the graduates with a fast-track route towards Chartered Financial Planning Status.

Dr Peter Williams FCII FPFS, the Head of Industry Development at AEGON UK said Bradford University School of Management is one of the UK's leading Business Schools and their commitment to the future of IFAs and advice is testimony to how quickly the current financial services industry is becoming a profession. The FSA's Retail Distribution Review will accelerate this change and Bradford University School of Management graduates will be well placed to enter the profession.

David Cubitt Chairman of the YIFA forum said we are absolutely delighted that after lengthy talks originally instigated by the Bradford Financial Services Initiative that the School of Management has committed to this groundbreaking project which will have a significant impact on our profession and for jobs in the region. I would like to thank not only the School of Management but also the steering group of the YIFA Forum David Dixon, BSc in Financial Planning Tim Johnson , Sue Dawson and Dr Peter Williams for their  work and commitment to this project. This is a proud day for Bradford and the region.

The YIFA Forum was formed in 2008 and has a membership of over 200 IFAs in the North. Its initiative is supported by several leading insurers, the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) and the Personal Finance Society (PFS). The forum is already engaging with the over 7,000 IFAs across the UK with the aim of improving skills within the sector.  It is determined to create a centre of excellence which will lead to many new jobs being created at a time when many businesses in the financial services sector are downsizing to cut costs.
