Braking of Road Vehicles short course

The Braking of Road Vehicles short course has been delivered since 1997 by a small team led by Professor Andrew Day in the School of Engineering, Design & Technology at the University of Bradford, with an external colleague, Mr. Jos Klaps (formerly Senior Engineer, Ford of Europe). The strength and unique character of the course come from the contributors, who are all expert practitioners in their own particular areas of braking.

The course provides technical education in the subject area of brakes and braking systems for professionals in the Automotive Industry and associated organisations. These include Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM's), suppliers, legislative organisations, government, police, and armed forces, in the U.K., Europe, and worldwide. Over the last 10 years the average attendance has been 34 delegates each year.

In 2008/9 the School of Engineering , Design and Technology was supported by Escalate to develop the Braking of Road Vehicles course as an accredited postgraduate module. This included the design of an assessment approach and support framework to incorporate work-based post course learning.

This year's course ran 7-11th September 2009, and while it was undoubtedly affected by the impact that the economic recession is having on the car industry, it was attended by delegates representing a number of key employers. MCB, Aston Martin, Volvo Trucks, Ford and Carlisle Brake Systems.
