Key Facts

Booking Activities

  • All students must complete the online registeration form to join the scheme. A passport-sized photograph or a good quality photograph must be provided for the Compact card, giving reader access to the library.
  • Ideally students should register on the scheme at the start of year 12. This enables us to deal with bookings more efficiently and enables students to obtain maximum benefit from the scheme and their student card. It is however still possible for year 12 students to join the scheme at a later stage and for year 13 students to register.
  • Individual and group bookings can be made using the online booking form
  • Places will be allocated on a first-come first served basis.
  • If courses fill it may be possible, depending on staff availability and resources, to run repeat sessions.
  • Many subject specialist staff are also happy to visit your school or college to talk to groups of students about the degree programmes available or to deliver specialist subject presentations. Please contact the relevant Recruitment Manager to arrange these. A selection of the topics can be found in the Lecture Programme for Schools and Colleges section.
  • Students will receive confirmation that they have been allocated a place on the activity they have chosen.

Events

  • Students are advised to book as soon as possible as places are allocated on a first come first served basis.
  • Confirmation of bookings will be sent via e-mail.
  • Class lists will be kept for all the events taking place at the University.
  • Students will be asked to sign in and out of sessions.
  • Students will be expected to remain for the full duration of the session.
  • Students who disrupt any Compact activity will be excluded from the remainder of the event.
  • Should any student be unable to attend an event for which they have booked they must cancel their place so that it can be re-allocated. Failure to do so may mean that an administrative charge will be payable.
  • The student induction session, whilst not compulsory, would be extremely helpful and all students are therefore advised to attend a session. A further date will be advertised for February and additional sessions can be organised on a school basis if required.
  • It is anticipated that further sessions may become available throughout the year. School and colleges will be notified of all additions and information may also be sent directly to students who have indicated on the application form an interest in the subject area.
  • Sessions may be subject to change.

We welcome your comments about the programme of activities and suggestions for future events.  Thank you for taking part in the Compact Scheme.
