The Compact Scheme forms part of a wide range of activities offered by the University of Bradford for schools and colleges. It provides sixth form students with a programme of activities, including support for their current programmes of study, the opportunity to sample future degree options and help with their university application. The scheme will also help those sixth form students who would like to progress onto the University of Bradford by giving them the opportunity to complete additional work to obtain 30 points towards their Bradford UCAS tariff points offer.
In this booklet there is a large selection of activities and opportunities to choose from: taster days, masterclasses, access to the library, higher education guidance and support sessions etc. Students can select to attend those activities that appeal to them - booking details are are available here. Please encourage your students to be quick, as places will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis - so to avoid disappointment, encourage your students to decide early.
Schools can book for groups of students, or if you prefer, you can ask your students to book individually and keep you and their parent(s)/guardian informed.
Some key facts about the scheme are listed here but please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. From September 2006 Universities in England have been able to charge variable fees, for 2010/11 the amount will be £3,290 a year for full-time undergraduate degree programmes. Students won't have to pay these fees upfront if they don't want to, as a fee loan to cover the costs is available. There is financial support available in the form of maintenance loans and grants. Universities have to offer bursaries (non-repayable financial support) to students from those families with the lowest incomes. The University of Bradford Bursary is designed to be simple to understand and to offer support to as many students as possible - we anticipate that 80% of students will be eligible to receive bursary payments. The University of Bradford is also offering the Compact Award - a one-off payment of £300 in Year 1 of a full-time undergraduate degree programme. To receive this payment, students must register with the University's Compact Scheme whilst in Year 12 or 13 at school/college and attend one event at the University. This could be a Taster Session, Masterclass or even the Summer School. They will receive the payment in March of their Year 1 studies, provided that they are still attending the University and actively participating in their chosen course.
