UBU Second-hand Store
The UBU Re-Cycle Store has been re-named the UBU Second-hand Store and
will move to the middle level of the Communal Building (near the launderette)
at the beginning of September.
We are looking to replenish stock, in particular we require household
items (not electrical) pots and pans etc, books (preferably academic),
Cds and clothing.
Ring ext: 3246 for collection or bring to the Students' Union.

New ITQ (Information Technology Qualification) Awareness

Nestle Powwow Watercoolers
Nestle Powwow have given formal notice that they wish to terminate their
contract with the UoB / NEUPG for the supply of watercoolers, effective
from the 30th September 2005. This is a result of Nestle trying to impose
a £3 per month per machine Environmental charge to the contract, to which
the UoB / NEUPG were unable to agree.
We have an alternative supplier available in Bronte Natural
Spring Water, whose costs are comparable with the existing Nestle contract.
In order to implement the changeover, in the first instance, could you
please contact Ian Stow, Purchasing Services, i.p.stow@bradford.ac.uk,
ext 3063 with your departmental details. We will then arrange for the
supplier to contact you direct to effect an exchange.

Bradford School of Management: Heritage Open Day

A Tale of Two Buildings
Supported by the Civic Trust and English Heritage Heritage Open Days
2005 in Yorkshire offers you the choice of over 280 properties to explore.
As part of this national event, Bradford School of Management, on 8 September,
will open its doors to the public, offering a rare glimpse of its two
19th C buildings. The two buildings share the 13 acres of parkland in
what is now Bradford University School of Management. Heaton Mount, built
in the 19th C, was once the home of one of Bradford's wool dynasties,
the Ambler family. This Victorian stately house is now used primarily
for conferences and the School's executive education programme. Originally
Airedale Theological College, the sites second building, also built in
the 19th C, is now known as Emm Lane. It is one of the finest examples
of Neo gothic Architecture in the region, its imposing façade fronts an
expansive circular lawn and the Emm Lane entrance to the School's Campus.
Members of the public are invited to attend a lecture given by Councillor
J Stanley King, The Lord of the Manor of Heaton, entitled 'Gems in the
Heaton Crown'. There will also be an opportunity to tour the two buildings,
entitled 'A Tale of Two Buildings'.

Learning Support Services goes for gold!
We have secured a Netskills Gold Scheme licence that allows staff and
students of the University to use all of the Netskills training materials.
Training modules are made available both formally, for use in training
courses and lectures, and informally, for staff and students to download
for self-study.
A module normally consists of about 2.5 hours of material including Microsoft
PowerPoint presentation with speaker's notes, a set of hands-on exercises
in MS Word and a list of useful Web addresses that allow trainers to deliver
face-to-face practical training sessions.
The wide range of modules includes Internet, Searching and Information
Skills, Communication and Collaboration, Learning and Teaching, Developing
a Web Site and Web Technologies.

not been informed of.
If you plan to have formative/summative assessments taking place in PC
clusters supported by Learning Support Services, please contact the ICT

Full Economic Costing (fEC) of Research Projects
Research applicants are requested to note that from 1st September 2005,
the University is required to prepare fEC-based costings for all research
proposals. This is regardless of the type of sponsor or whether the sponsor
actually recognises the fEC methodology.
Support to prepare these costings will be provided centrally in the first
instance by a combination of the Costing and Pricing Office and the Research
Grants and Contracts Section (contact details below).

Change in VAT legislation for seconded staff to the NHS
From the 1st of September 2005, there is a change to the treatment of
seconded staff to the NHS.
Seconded staff means staff with a University of Bradford contract but
working under the direction and control of the NHS. These staff charges
to the NHS have previously received VAT exemption, but due to a court
hearing being lost by a UK University the charge will become subject to
an addition of VAT.

Eating Disorders - Food for Thought - Friday 23 September 2005,
13.30 - 16.30
Target Audience: Lecturers, personal tutors, those who work closely
with students, and pastoral staff.
Eating disorders are increasing in the general population and are one
of the main life-threatening mental illness conditions in young people.
In education we are likely to come across many students who have significant
difficulty in their relationship with food, which can adversely affect
their ability to achieve their potential in academic work. This may
also have implications on the University's standards of student achievement
and retention.

New Staff Induction - Monday 3 October 2005, 11.45 - 15.00
Target audience: Staff who are new to the University of Bradford
The New Staff Induction is intended as an introduction to the Central
Services or "The Administration" of the University. There will be brief

Aims: To introduce (non-strenuous) exercises to help make your voice

Works to University Buildings - Asbestos Removal Works
Richmond Building N Floor - removal of Asbestolux ceiling within lobby

This work will commence on Friday 9th September and be completed on
