New. Open Day thanks

A massive thank you to all staff and students who helped out either in the run up to, or on Saturday's Open Day. The day was a huge success, and while numbers are still being finalised we think we had around 120 more students this time than we did this time last year.

Final numbers will be communicated to staff and an Open Day wash-up meeting will take place in the next week or two.

As always if you have any ideas, comments or suggestions about this, or future, open days get in touch.

Thanks

Kevin Spencer, Corporate Communications, ext: 3034, email: k.spencer1@bradford.ac.uk

New. Leeds/Bradford Local Group of the Royal Statistical Society - next meeting

The Leeds/Bradford Local Group of the Royal Statistical Society will be holding their next meeting here at the University of Bradford. It will be held at 4.00pm on Wednesday 20th October in Room D2.06 (Horton Building). Tea/coffee will be served beforehand in this same room at 3.30pm.

The speaker will be Dr Sam Cameron (Bradford Centre for International Development) who has built up a reputation for his application of statistical models to virtually every aspect of human behaviour. His chosen topic looks like being thought provoking to say the least!

Title

Modelling the Decision to Commit Adultery.

Summary

This seminar will describe a large database of individuals who have self-reported 'adultery' in their relationships. Adultery is treated in terms of a model where individuals demand two commodities 'sex' and 'companionship' from others.

The statistical work uses logit estimation to establish which individuals are most likely to perform an act of adultery given that the probability of such an act at any point in time is treated as conditional on personal characteristics like age, religion, appearance and education, and external factors like region of residence and the amount of travelling away from home in connection with one's job.
