On 8th October 2003, Senate endorsed changes to the current University procedures for making adjustments to the assessment process for students with dyslexia.
For several years, the Disability Office have been producing Guidance Notes for staff to use when marking essays and exam scripts by students with dyslexia. However there have been concerns from staff, that in practice, it was not possible to apply the guidance at the point of marking in a fair and consistent way.
It has been decided to shift the focus of support, by ensuring that any recommended adjustments are made during the teaching and learning process and not at the point of marking.
The Disability Office will produce an assessment of needs report which will contain a summary sheet. This will outline the impact of the student's dyslexia in a learning context and recommendations on how the University and Departments can support that student.
The letter re: changes to University procedures on assessment process for students with dyslexia is available on the Disability Office Web site in Word format (http://www.brad.ac.uk/admin/disab/policies/dyslexia/changes.doc) and full details of the amendments to the procedure will be available in the QA Code of Practice Handbook shortly.

The OSA Christmas party is on Wednesday 10th December starting at 5 pmvenue Senior Common room on F floor, Richmond building. To make the party more fun it is going to be a charity race night. What this means is a commentator hosts races that you watch on a screen. You bet on the horses, hopefully win and collect winnings. If you don't win the profit goes to the Boys & Girls Welfare Society. See www.bgws.org.uk for details. For £2 you can increase the excitement by being an owner or a jockey. If your horse wins you get a prize. The more owners and jockeys that we sell the more money will go to the charity. A couple of committee members have been to race nights and say they are very good fun. They strongly recommend for an alternative Christmas event. The first race will start at 6 pm. There are eight races and will probably finish around 8:30 pm.
So we can cater and buy enough refreshments please let me know via email if you are coming s.m.schmassmann@bradford.ac.uk.
If you want to pick your own horse please ring me to arrange a time to come to E63 and bring with you £2 or alternatively you can email me, saying how many owners or jockeys you want and I will pick for you.
If you are arranging via email then please post to me a cheque. Susan Schmassmann MIS, Richmond Building, Room E63 (enter via E62), ext 3120 s.m.schmassmann@bradford.ac.uk
