Public Consultation - mergerA public consultation has been launched to allow local people to have their say about the proposed merger of the University of Bradford and Bradford College in August 2004. The University and the College took the decision to merge into a single new institution late last year, subject to the agreement of the main funding bodies, the Department for Education and Skills and the necessary legal and statutory duties being met. As part of an on-going consultation process, the people of Bradford and the surrounding area are being invited to attend a number of public meetings in Ilkley, Shipley, Keighley and Bradford to express their views on the merger proposal and to find out what this exciting development would mean for the region. Members of the public are invited to attend the following consultation meetings, which will be hosted by the Learning & Skills Council West Yorkshire:

Staff Development OpportunitiesPersonal Tutoring Skills - This 1-day course follows on from the Introduction to Counselling Skills training and is specifically designed for people who have already attended that course and are thinking further about personal tutoring: 18 March 2003, 09.00 - 16.00.
*** Appraiser Refresher - this ½ day event is an update for previously trained Appraisers on the revised Career Development and Staff Appraisal Scheme: 25 March 2003, 09.30 - 12.30.
*** Managing Meetings - an opportunity to find out what you could do to improve the quality of the meetings you attend. 28 March 2003, 09.00 - 16.30. F
*** Coaching skills for Managers - Coaching Skills is a staff development course for anyone who manages staff within the University and includes techniques and insights that enable managers to be more effective coaches. Date: 1 & 2 April 2003 (there is also a course on 3 & 4 July) 09.15 - 16.45.
*** Appraisal Training - the University's approach to appraisal, prepare participants to undertake appraisal (from both perspectives), understand the skills required of appraisers and to become familiar with the associated paperwork. Day 1 for appraisees, both days for appraisers. 8 & 10 April 2003, 09.15 - 16.45.

National Science Week at the University of BradfordThe School of Life Sciences and the School of Engineering, Design and Technology are both running events as part of National Science Week which takes place between March 7 - 16.
University pens and envelopesUniversity pens are now available in bundles of 50 from Inprint & Design at a cost of £10 per 50. This works out at 20p per pen. Pens are white with the University logo and web address in University claret. White envelopes with the University logo on are available direct from Inprint & Design in boxes of 1,000. Simply send a requisition for the number of envelopes or pens you need. Any queries regarding pens and envelopes should be directed to David Lee on ext: 3068. School Governor PresentationsInterested in volunteering to become a School Governor? All staff are invited and welcome to attend one of two presentations delivered by the Governors Advisory Service taking place on Tuesday 25th March 2003 at the University of Bradford.

They can be collected from Student Financial & Information Services Reception, Top Floor, Communal Building. Please note that students with children should apply. We are in need of non-perishable food again. If you have any tinned or non-perishable food, please either call into our Reception, Top Floor Communal Building, or give us a call on ext: 6505, we'll collect from your office. A lot of students are in hardship and this food can make all the difference to them. Don't forget the Students' Union has a second hand shop, anything you would like to donate-clothes, especially for children and babies, unwanted household items etc etc. This helps students and raises a small amount of cash for the union. Next week the Council launches its Zero Tolerance Policy.
