Information for Student Handbooks, from Lynn McVey, Head of the Academic Standards and Support Unit

The Senate, at its meetings on 4 April, 2001 and 13 June, 2001, has approved a change to the University's policy on the import of prior certificated or experiential learning. The new policy will take effect in the 2001/02 session, and should be communicated clearly and unambiguously to students, especially at entry to the University or any of its off-site partners. Reference to the policy should be included in Student Handbooks.

If your Student Handbooks are already prepared for 2001/02, please contact the ASSU, which will provide on request a one-page addendum to be slipped into Handbooks prior to circulation.

For the full details click here (pdf file) or contact Lynn McVey on ext 3107 or email L.McVey@bradford.ac.uk.

Personal Harassment Contact Training, from Helen Crabtree, Staff Development

Monday 9 July 2001 from 9am- 5pm

The University has had a Code of Practice on Personal Harassment since 1992 and has held training on an annual basis, for 'Contact Persons' who are willing to be available as a first port of call for any staff member or student who wishes to raise a harassment matter. Both staff and students act as Contact Persons.

You can undertake the training either with a view to your name being included on the list or to assist you in dealing with complaints of this nature within your working area. It may also be of interest to Equal Opportunities Facilitators.

Each Head of Department/School has been sent details about this training. If you wish to attend and consider becoming a Personal Harassment Contact, please contact either your Head of Department or Head of School to discuss this. They have been asked to provide nominations by Friday 29 June, however, nominations up until Thursday 5 July will be welcome.

If you wish to know more about the Personal Harassment Policy before making a decision, information is available on the Personnel web-site at www.brad.ac.uk/admin/personnel/harassmentpolicy.htm or a leaflet can be obtained from the Personnel Office. Also have a look at the information on the Staff Development pages here.

Love/hate relationship with food?

Seminar to be held on Friday, 20 July, 2001: 12.30 - 2pm (including lunch)
Tutor: Chris Rolfe-Moore, Counselling Service

How to do you view food? Do you eat to live, or live to eat?!

For most of us eating is a necessity and an enjoyment and for some of us, a compulsion! Do you love to eat enormous amounts and then become riddled with guilt afterwards? Do you eat in secret, hide chocolate wrappers or call for a takeaway without telling your partner? Are you constantly on a binge and diet rollercoaster?Come along to this lunchtime sandwich to hear about why we use food in the way we do. This is not a diet class it is part of a wider attempt to raise awareness of how our relationship with food can adversely affect a students ability to function and influence our work and home life.

If you would like to attend, please either complete the on-line booking form at: www.brad.ac.uk/research/pgcourses/Form.html , email us at: staffdev@bradford.ac.uk or call us on ext. 3102.
