From the 1st February 2005 our new name is People Development.
We will be the People Development division within the department of Human Resources.
For further details and the rationale behind the name change see our website.
The University has well established and productive links with local and regional communities and one of our corporate objectives is to build upon this to become "a University at the heart of its communities."
In February the University will begin an internal mapping exercise to identify current community engagement and future plans in each School. At the same time we will talk with communities to gain insight into their perceptions of the University and to understand how we can add value to their activity.
If you are involved in work/projects that engage with local or regional communities please e-mail Carol Butterfield the Community Engagement Project Manager at c.butterfield@bradford.ac.uk providing a very short description of the work and the name/s of the community organisations you work with.
For the purposes of the project we have defined communities as 'organisations in the community and voluntary sector, the infrastructural and other organisations which work directly with different sectors of Bradford's most disadvantaged communities.'
If you receive any cold calls from advertisers then please feel free to refer them to the University's advertising agency SMRS.

While lecturers have considerable expertise in assessing the learning of their students in their own classrooms, they have not done as good a job at assessing learning at the departmental, programme, or institution level. Moreover, while classroom assessment focuses on course content, we have less access to evaluating students' ways of knowing - such as critical thinking, understanding diverse societies and cultures, integrating and applying knowledge - that transcend specific courses. Using the Indiana University Student Electronic Portfolio (ePort) as a primary example, this session will show how electronic portfolios may not only document and assess learning, but also enhance student learning.
