General University notices
HOMELINK Scheme
Can you spare a few hours to host two or three international students
in your home? This can help students overcome a sense of isolation they
can experience, particularly in the first semester of their first year.
It also gives them a chance to meet staff on a more equal and informal
basis.
The School of Management Effective Learning Service (ELS) seeks staff
and other local people who are willing to host two or three overseas students
from the School for no more than three occasions in the academic year.
The same small group of students would be involved each time. Typically,
this would involve offering the students a light meal and friendship for
a few hours at the weekend, usually on a Sunday afternoon.
The ELS would arrange the first meeting between the students and the
host, but the host would then arrange the subsequent meetings. However,
this is obviously dependent on the willingness of both sides to continue
meeting each other.
If you are willing to host students or have questions about the scheme
telephone the scheme organiser, Colin Neville, Effective Learning Officer,
at the School of Management: 4414 or email: C.Neville@bradford.ac.uk.

Officer Staff Association - change of name
The Officer Staff Association was created over thirty years ago. Since
then the membership has changed, all staff are welcome to join, and we
now have members from a wide range of positions in the University. The
committee have had feedback from newer members that they were unsure of
their eligibility because of the word "officer" in the title,
so we feel it is time for a change of name.
Suggestions are welcome from ALL staff (including non-members) and a
prize will given to the winner. The prize will be a free place on any
social visit of your choice (see http://www.bradford.ac.uk/admin/osa/
for details).
Please email your suggestions to osa-committee@bradford.ac.uk
by the end of August. The committee will inform you of the winning name
at the start of September.
