Exhibitions at Gallery II

A Guide to Complete Happiness
Ceramic Reliefs by Martin Hearne

Till 11 April 2003

"The story's the thing, pictures that tell the tale; that's what I like. Illustrations of figures in action, figures caught up by events or the protagonists in some drama and I like it all the better if the images are made with a decorative flourish, or have about them something ornamental"

Martin Hearne's clay reliefs are constructed stories or tales taken from everyday life. They are told using a graphic shorthand of printed symbols and simple drawings with added three-dimensional elements that protrude from the surface. The added elements often include found ceramic objects like cheap figurines bought in charity shops, or are specifically made to fit the story.

Further exhibition details can be found at: http://www.bradford.ac.uk/gallery

TV series being filmed

Fans of the ITV soap, Whitby Royal, may be interested to learn that an episode is being filmed at the University's Woodhall playing fields and pavilion on Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd of April 2003.

The episode in question includes a couple of scenes from a rugby match with a couple more inside the pavilion. Male students from the University have been invited to take part in the filming as rugby playing extras - very lucrative work, we are given to understand.
