New. Home Computer Initiative – Extra Roadshow

There will be another chance to see some of the equipment available through the HCI scheme on Wednesday 29th March in the Richmond Building foyer. Computer Centre staff will be available to give advice and assistance between 10am and 4pm. Remember – this will be the last HCI scheme so pop along and talk to us if you’re interested.

New. A special event for scientists: Introduction to the News Media

Scientists across the UK are being invited to a special event entitled Introduction to the News Media on 16 May 2006 at the Wellcome Trust from 2pm to 6pm. This event, which ran twice last year and was incredibly popular, is being organised by the Science Media Centre.

Children's Easter break sports activities at the Sports Centre - Reminder

Due to the success of the summer camp earlier this year Sports camp is back. Dates are 10th - 13th of April and 19th - 21st of April, 9.30 - 3.30p.m everyday, only £8 per day.

Activities include football, basketball, cricket, fun swim sessions and much more.

Bookings are now being taken - can call the Sports Centre office on ext 4868. Alternatively, if you need anymore details call Debbie on ext 4871.

New. Buddhist Meditation

Relax at Buddhist Meditation classes every Wednesday lunch time at 12.30 for 40 - 45 minutes in T1.1 Ashfield Building.

Please note that the last class before Easter will be on Wednesday April 5, and classes will start again on Wed April 26.

New. European Computer Driving Licence reaches 100!

The University reached a landmark with the 100th member of staff to complete ECDL since it started in earnest just over four years ago. At a celebratory lunch organised to recognise the achievement of the latest round of successful candidates, Pat Henshaw - the 100th - was presented with a certificate, a memory stick, and the complete set of ECDL Advanced course material for future reference!

Geoff Layer, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for teaching and learning made the presentation and emphasised what a useful resource ECDL qualified staff can be to their departments.

Information Sessions for Prospective New ECDL Candidates

If you are interested in applying a place on the ECDL programme for next year, you will first need to attend one of the lunchtime ECDL Information sessions held from 1pm - 2pm in room 1.7 J B Priestley Library on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 3 May 2006
  • Thursday 11 May 2006
  • Monday 5 June 2006

Closing date for applications is Friday 16 June 2006.

The counselling service is open throughout the Easter vacation except for bank and customary holidays. Appointments can be made by telephone on 235750,or by leaving a text message on 07749820070, or by email; counselling@bradford.ac.uk

Works on Campus


New. Richmond Building

For your information the following works are to be carried out during the Easter vacation.

  • Division of lobby outside Richmond N1 - 4 to enhance Fire Escape arrangements by erection of partition with double doors.
  • Replacement of suspended ceiling in Workshop Block corridor after installation of Heating Mains.

The works will commence on Monday 27th March 2006 and will be complete by Friday 21st April 2006.

Conversion to office space.

It is anticipated that the works which commenced on 21st March will be completed in approximately four weeks.

New. Horton Building D - Lift to Office Wing

Please note that the lift the office wing will not be available except to those with a need due to disability. This is to enable Contractors to clear level D4 of the office wing.

Work will commence on 27 March and it is due to be completed in approximately four weeks.

New. Jean Monnet Research Seminar in European Economic Integration

You are invited to a seminar at the School of Management entitled 'EU-China Relations: Does China Matter to European Competitiveness?' to be given by Dr Xiudian Dai, University of Hull on Wednesday 29 March 2006 at 1.00pm

Venue: Higgins Lecture Theatre (Airedale Building), School of Management, Emm Lane

Xiudian Dai is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Politics and International Studies and member of the Centre for European Union Studies at the University of Hull. Having obtained his PhD from the University of Sussex, Xiudian started his academic career at Hull in 1994. His main research interests include corporate strategy and public policy in the information and communications technology sector, the politics of the internet and EU-China relations. Xiudian is author of 'Corporate Stategy, Public Policy and New Technologies' (Oxford: Pergamon, 1996) and 'The Digital Revolution and Governance' (Aldershot: Ashgate, 2000).
