New. Civic and Community Education - forthcoming events

The Mad Hatters: The Life and Times of some Notable Eccentrics
Saturday 4 November 2006

A man who ate earth; men who created fur-bearing trout and bare-fronted hoodwinks; others who burrowed underground or built mock abbeys that repeatedly fell down. No nation can match the British for eccentricity and this day school unashamedly celebrates the fact!

Further details can be found at: http://www.brad.ac.uk/admin/conted/civic-community/mad-hatters.html

Know Your Neighbour? Gypsies and Travellers
Saturday 18 November 2006

Gypsies and Travellers have been resident in the UK for over 500 years. What do we really know about these communities who have been our neighbours for so long?

Further details can be found at: http://www.brad.ac.uk/admin/conted/civic-community/travellers.html

Popular Music: Memory, Time and Place
Saturday 25 November 2006

Most of us know pieces of music which remind us of times in our lives, or places we have visited; quite often the association between music and memory is surprisingly strong.

This day school will explore how such associations work. Starting with a look at key developments in western popular music, we will go on to investigate how we "make sense" of music, and how its use in the media can influence the mood of the audience.

Further details can be found at: http://www.brad.ac.uk/admin/conted/civic-community/memory.html

Details of the latest lecture and day school series can be seen at http://www.brad.ac.uk/sled/civic-community/ Alternatively, please contact the Short Course Unit on 3217/3.
