Registering for a Qualification Course?
Deadline for submission of applications - Friday 21 June 2002

The Post Entry Training (PET) Scheme is a centrally administered scheme that provides financial support and confirmation of day release for members of University staff who apply to attend vocational and educational courses which lead to a qualification. The scheme is managed by the Staff Development Administrator. Approvals are agreed jointly by the Staff Development Unit and the relevant Personnel Officer on the recommendation of the Head of School/Planning Unit.

Staff who wish to apply for support to commence a vocational or educational course during September 2002 and August 2003, either on day release or in their own time, should complete an E1 application form (available on the web-site) and submit it, after confirmation by your appraiser and approval of your Head of School/Planning Unit, to Helen Dennett in the Staff Development Unit no later than 21 June 2002.

All applicants will be informed of the outcome in writing in the first week of August. Applications received after the deadline of 21 June 2002 will be considered in order of receipt. Levels of support will be largely dependent on the remaining unallocated budget. If for any reason your Head of School/Planning Unit does not support your application, and you still wish to go ahead with it, please contact the relevant Personnel Officer to discuss this.

We encourage participation from part-time and temporary staff and would be willing to discuss details with applicants individually on request. Notification of the deadline for applications and further information has been forwarded to members of the Senior Management Group and Heads of Departments this week. If you have attended and completed a Post Entry Training course and have not done so already, could you please submit your exam results to the Staff Development Unit. The University requires exam results, particularly if you intend to undertake further Post Entry Training.

Due to an increase in external demand for the 2002 Postgraduate Prospectus, central University stock levels are running low. The 2003 Prospectus is not due to be produced until the end of August this year. If you can help please ring Fiona Duthoit in Corporate Communications on ext: 3035 or email f.d.duthoit@bradford.ac.uk. Your assistance is appreciated and will help us reduce potential reprint costs.

Eight week seminar series at Bradford University School of Management

Wednesday 1st May 2002 to Wednesday 19th June from 17.30 to 19.30 in the Higgins Lecture Theatre.

The purpose of the programme is to provide an insight into the critical factors related to achieving excellence and to highlight through practical examples how various elements of organisational excellence can effectively be put to work. The programme is designed so as to enable organisations to build and sustain excellence. It has been specifically designed to provide practising managers and MBA students alike to be exposed to Best Practice thinking, and innovative applications that lead ultimately to credible performance outcomes. Last year's programme (Excellence 001) proved to be so popular that we have been asked to continue the series. Topics to be covered include:

  • Learning & Innovation
  • People Management
  • Leadership
  • Excellence in Performance
  • Partnerships
  • Process Management
  • Resource Management
  • Policy & Strategy

The fundamentals of excellence are presented through 8 carefully designed presentations to be conducted by experienced practicioners who are also internationally respected speakers. Collectively, the selection put together can act as a roadmap for small and large organisations both in the public and private sectors. It can also provide great insights into world class best practice management, effective techniques and first hand knowledge on modern tools, methodologies and innovative credible approaches that provide positive results if properly applied.

Please e-mail ECTQM.mgt@bradford.ac.uk or phone (01274)234314 to book your place or for further information on the series and the internationally recognised guest speakers involved.
