Meeting of Assembly - 26 November
An ordinary meeting of the Assembly will be held on Wednesday 26 November 2003 from 1-2pm in the John Stanley Bell Lecture Theatre, Richmond Building.
The Agenda for the meeting on 26 November and minutes of the previous meeting are available on the web at http://www.brad.ac.uk/admin/assembly and the Agenda will include 'Questions to the Vice-Chancellor'.

News from Catering
Due to popular demand, Strollers F Floor (situated next to Mondiale Refectory) will be re-locating within Mondiale Refectory as of Monday 17th November 2003, offering the same extensive selection of Panini's, Baguettes and Toasties.
The Staff Dinning Room (situated next to Mondiale Refectory), will continue to operate as a private location with additional seating, a review of this service is currently under operation with a view to enhancing the current offer, details to follow.

Inprint and Design - customer survey
In an effort for us to fully understand our Customers current perception & knowledge of our services as well as what future print related requirements are needed, we, in conjunction with Priority Research Ltd, will be conducting a Customer Survey (Telephone Interviews & Postal Questionnaire) over the next 2/3 weeks.
The Information provided is ESSENTIAL for us to both improve our current service as well as ensuring that any investment made is effective in offering new & relevant services to both the University & College. I would ask for your full support, which will be recognised by £1 donated to Children in Need for each Completed Questionnaire.

Success for the University's first SAVE ENERGY month
Staff and students alike have shown a huge interest in the Universities very first SAVE ENERGY month.
Thousands of Turn off Light stickers, Switch off Computer Monitor stickers and Save Energy Posters have been requested, distributed and placed up across the University already this November. These posters and stickers contain simple gentle reminders that we should all save energy whilst at work.
We have a limited number left so if you would like any for your office please contact: environment@bradford.ac.uk The University's website has also been updated with essential information on energy saving at work and within the home.

Following on from the success of last years 'Secret Santa' scheme, the UCAN Volunteer Project (based in the Students Union, Communal Building) has agreed to collect and distribute food hampers and gifts for the homeless.

Large bunch of keys with various key rings found on campus. These can be collected from Richmond Building Reception.
University Taxi Provider
The University taxis provider has been changed from City Taxis to City White Cabs. The new company operates only with Hackney Carriage licensed drivers, have vehicles suitable for wheelchair access and have an excellent approach to customer service.
For bookings Tel: 07811 487025 - contact Azar Younis. It has been agreed, students or if those off site and calling from their own mobile phone can ring the number and ask to be called back.
Rates will be charged at £3.70 first mile, £1.30 per mile thereafter and can be paid using the University docket and invoice system.

Want to cut down on your junk email?
The University now has a system to check all incoming email for potential junk email (spam). This system will:
- get rid of the message completely if it is from a known junk mailer
- or filter emails into a separate email folder for you to check and delete or keep as necessary
If you wish to opt-in to the service, please do the following.
Webmail, Execmail, IMAP users
- Create a folder called junkmail
POP users
- Log into the webmail service at webmail.brad.ac.uk
- Create a new folder called junkmail
- To opt out of the service, remove this folder
All email that gets tagged as spam will be put into this folder. Spam over 28 days old will be deleted. It is important that you check this folder regularly in case of any legitimate emails being caught. Due to the way that POP works, POP users will have to use the Webmail interface to check their junkmail folder.

New Health & Safety Policy Statement
A new Health & Safety Policy Statement has been issued this month by the Vice-Chancellor. The statement demonstrates commitment to health and safety and expectations of University staff in meeting those requirements.

New IOSH Managing Safely Course ( 5,6,7 & 8 January 2004)
A new health and safety course has been introduced to replace the previously popular City & Guilds Safety Foundation Course. It is considered that the new course will better meet the needs of the University.
The course will appeal to Managers, Supervisors, Health and Safety Liaison Officers and anyone wishing to develop skills and knowledge in health and safety. The 4 day course will be run over consecutive days.

Managing Sickness Absence
The University has a number of policies and procedures and offers training sessions to assist managers in handling cases of sick absence in a fair and sensitive way.
These include the Sickness Management policy which is available on the website at www.brad.ac.uk/admin/personnel/SicknessManagementPolicy
There is also the facility to refer employees to the Occupational Health Service for advice on their health. The OHS is a resource which can help to facilitate a return to health for the individual and enables managers to obtain professional guidance on both the nature of the absence and means of supporting individuals on their return to work. I would also like to draw your attention to the services of the Disability Office, who can assist employees with some health-related difficulties at work, and are able to offer advice and assistance on re-integrating employees whose health problems have left them at a disadvantage.
