General University notices
National Student Survey
- reminder
The National Student Survey (NSS) is an on-line survey of final year
students across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The survey will seek
the views of final year, full time, HEFCE funded students and will be
carried out by Ipsos by email during the week commencing 30th January
2006. Please help us to increase the response rate by promoting
this with your students and encouraging them to respond.
All courses with results which meet the minimum response threshold will
be published on the TQI website (www.tqi.ac.uk
external link, will open in a new window) so that potential students can
use the information to help with their decision making about choices of
course and/or institution. This is clearly a very important tool in attracting
new students and we need to maximise this as much as possible. The response
rate of our students to last year’s survey carried was disappointing,
leading to some of our courses having no results published on the website,
and we are therefore hoping to increase the response rate this year. Could
you please raise with your final year students the importance of completing
the survey.
The NSS results last year were inevitably also used in league tables
published in some national newspapers. We would like to increase our position
in the league tables and we can only do this by encouraging our students
to participate. Schools should also, by now, be familiar with the results
from last year’s survey - those Schools who had less than satisfactory
results need to be looking at the reasons for this and resolving any problems
so that the scores are higher this time around.
Any School wishing to view their results in detail can check the TQI
website or contact Chris Toft in ASSU for a printed version of their results.
Chris Toft
Head of ASSU
