Each Departmental Office will be receiving a copy of an A1 Year Planner including all the dates and course titles - if you do not receive one, please request one (contact details below).
Details of events can be viewed and booked on-line at: www.staffdev.bilk.ac.uk from 31 August 2004.

Sports and Amenities Building
For your information, the electrical testing and inspection of the fixed wiring in the Sports and Amenities Building, including the Nautilus Suite and Buffet Bar Area will be carried out in the very near future. This will involve the testing of every electrical circuit in the above-mentioned areas.
The contractors carrying out the work will liase with the sports centre staff, with regard to accessing different areas of the building. They will be testing the lighting circuits first. Because of the nature of the work it is extremely difficult to give an exact start and finish time for the area that is being tested. The occupants of the area under test will be given as much advance notice as it is possible.
The work will commence on Monday 23rd August 2004 in the Sports Centre. Whilst the work is being carried out, the areas under test will be without electricity for periods of time. We appreciate that this statutory work will cause inconvenience to the occupants of the buildings and we will endeavour, wherever possible, to keep it to a minimum.
Should you have any queries regarding this work, will you please direct them to either of the following people: - Mr G Simpson, Electrical Maintenance Officer, ext 3431 or Mr C Overton, Electrical Supervisor, ext 3425

Are you looking for a chance to challenge yourself, try something different from your usual work, or develop communication, coaching, assertiveness, facilitation, networking and counselling skills?
Are you looking for experience to help you become a manager or a careers adviser?
If so, being a mentor could be an excellent opportunity for you!
The University's Administrative/Professional Career Development Scheme is looking for Academic Related staff who would be interested in developing their experience, skills and even confidence by becoming a mentor to a participant joining the Scheme this autumn.
The Scheme Coordinator, Helen Dennett, has organised a briefing meeting for people who are interested on Friday 17 September from 12.30 - 14.00 (including lunch) to find out more about mentoring on the Scheme.
If you're curious, go to: http://www.brad.ac.uk/admin/staffdev/Careerdv/mentinvite.html or contact Helen Dennett, e-mail: h.dennett@bradford.ac.uk, extension 3102.
Dear colleagues
Mr Nerurkar - member of University committees - has changed his email address to djnerurkar@aol.com
ICT Support
Final year students from the department of EIMC are about to return fresh-faced from Summer, and think about what they'll work on for their major projects. Where possible, they are encouraged to seek a 'real' client to work with/for - from agreeing the brief, to delivery of the finished project.
In the past, they have produced DVDs, CDROMs, videos, websites, computer games and other formats. The quality of these projects is often comparable to that of (very expensive!) external commissions.
If you or your Department, or perhaps even a charity or business that you know of, could benefit from getting a relative freebie (it might simply require a some client liaison time and input), please contact the projects co-ordinator, Mark Goodliff, on extension 5467 or e-mail m.l.goodliff@brad.ac.uk
Friday 10th September 2004

Or contact the Short Course Unit on 3216/3213, email scu@bradford.ac.uk.
Many of our international students need to extend their visas during their course of study.
Are you unsure what documentary evidence of attendance and progression on their course you can provide if asked?
An Information Session will be held on Wednesday 8th September, 12.30pm to 1.30pm, Meeting Room 3 in the Communal Building, to explain the various ways in which you can do this.
All staff are welcome to attend the Session which will be run by Shirley Moorhouse, Student Adviser (who specialises in Immigration Advice and Visa Extensions), Students' Union Advice Centre.
Please send an email to s.m.baker@bradford.ac.uk if you would like to come and please bring with you a copy of the FLR(S) Visa Extension Application form which can be downloaded or printed (pdf file) from: http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/ind/en/home/applying/application_form.Maincontent.0010.file.tmp/compressedFLR(S)Aug03.pdf (external link to the Home Office, which will open in a new browser window).
Members of staff are invited to consider nominating individuals for the award of honorary degrees of the University.
Further details with regard to current policy and associated guidelines can be found at http://www.brad.ac.uk/admin/student-registry/awards/Honorary_Degrees.htm
Proposals, to include biographical details and a full supporting statement, should be sent under confidential cover to Nick Buck, Student Registry by Friday 27 August 2004 for consideration by the Honorary Degrees Committee at its 9 September meeting.
Nominations received after this date can be considered at meetings of the Committee to be held later in the session. If you are interested in putting a name forward and would find it helpful to discuss the case further before doing so please contact Nick Buck on 3038 or email at n.j.buck@bradford.ac.uk.
As you will no doubt appreciate
it is most important that any persons nominated for an honorary degree
should not be made aware that there was any possibility of such
an award being conferred upon them.
Current vacancies at the University and College can be found at the Personnel website:
http://www.brad.ac.uk/admin/personnel/jobvacancies/
The weekly bulletin can also be found as a pdf from the same page.
