Student Financial and Information Services would be grateful for any tinned/ non-perishable food that you could donate for students who have financial difficulties, or are awaiting money clearing.
Please drop it off at SFIS in the Communal Building, or give us a call and we will come and collect it - ext: 6500.
Many thanks.
SFIS & The Disability Office have produced a mindmap for staff as a short-cut to the support on offer for students. If you want to know the best place to refer a student, or get information yourself just look at the problem-based information here http://www.brad.ac.uk/sfis/mind-map-staff.pdf (pdf file, 785,322 bytes)
Keep it handy for all those emergencies, it can save you time and hours of listening to problems of a non-academic nature. Hopefully this will ensure that students with problems are referred to the correct place in a timely manner, and staff will know where to go for support and information.
SFIS webpages contain a lot of useful information for students and staff, please use them and the other Student Services web pages.
You will all be aware of the difficulties the Student Support System has experienced with the new computer system this summer. Many students will arrive with no loan and no funds. Each year this happens but this year the numbers will be large.
If a student approaches you with this problem send them to SFIS in the Communal Building, we can loan them money to survive.
They have all had information about this, but just in case they panic send them our way.
Likewise, if a student is thinking of leaving their course, send them to us, we deal with this every year. Often the problem can be solved and the student will be retained. We try to see the student there and then, they do not need an appointment.

Andrew Dodds New Paintings
Friday 17th September Friday 29th October 2004
Monday Friday 11am 5pm, late night opening on Thursday til 7pm.
Gallery II, Chesham Building.
“Painting is something that is done an activity but it is always about ideas. The central idea is painting; to paint is to investigate the relationship between idea and action, but painting doesn’t investigate that relationship because painting actually is that relationship. To begin to understand how concepts can be something physical and can be articulated by the art-making process itself is the real leap of understanding that you have to make as an artist.
“I see minimalism as a way to allow the viewer to find meaning by considering the work in a context that is relevant to them. All you want is for people to look to find something or nothing but not to be unwilling to be receptive. I don’t paint for anyone, or do it for myself; I don’t think I want there to be individualism or clear, single meaning. That’s why the paintings might seem quiet or expressionless because the expression and content can only be found individually, and that mediation by public process is very important to me. I want the paintings each to have a little piece of everything and everyone, but remain unspecific. The only way they are real is as paintings. “
