New. Open Days 2004

The dates for next year's Open Days have been set as:

  • Wednesday 10th March (11:00am-7:00pm)
  • Saturday 3rd July (9:30am-3:30pm)
  • Saturday 2nd October (9:30am-3:30pm)

The first event will be a joint undergraduate and postgraduate Open Day. Following this year's postgraduate recruitment fair held in conjunction with the Self-Employment Show in May it was felt that postgraduate recruitment should be incorporated into future Open Days. Emphasis will be on recruiting both current undergraduate students and external students onto postgraduate courses her at the University of Bradford.

The July and October Open Days will be undergraduate Open Days, run along similar lines to those held this year. Further details to follow in the New Year.

New. For the urgent attention of all AUT members

The date and venue on the agenda for the next AUT meeting, circulated in the members' handbooks, is wrong. Many apologies.

The next meeting is on Wednesday 22nd October at 1.10pm in Room T1.3, Ashfield Building. The President will be reporting on the outcome of the Special Council meeting, held on 15th October to discuss action in response to the pay offer. There was a unanimous view at Council that we are facing the biggest crisis in HE for 30 years.

Please make every effort to attend, to hear the issues explained and participate in the discussion.

New. Volunteer Reading Partners

The UCAN Project requires staff volunteers to read with primary school children. You would be required to commit to the placement for a full term (approximately 12 weeks) and would visit the school once a week for approximately one hour and fifteen minutes (to include return travelling time). It is anticipated that you would spend 40 to 45 minutes reading with a child. There are nine schools involved in this particular scheme. They are all located in the A+ Education Action Zone (Wyke, Low moor and Oakenshaw).

If you are interested please email ucan@bradford.ac.uk quoting 'Reading Volunteer'.

Please note that it will be necessary for you to obtain the support of your line manager to participate in this activity.

New. More Volunteers needed for new ECO Network

Estates & Facilities are calling for more volunteers to the new ECO network.

We are running a Save Energy month in November and need individuals who are prepared to spare 5 minutes in November to put up energy posters and stickers around their office to help the university in its stewardship of the environment by reducing our energy consumption.

Save Energy month will be followed by Cut Down Waste in February, Save Water in May and Travel Sensibly next October. As an ECO all we ask is that you spare what time you can afford, each theme month to put up posters/stickers or hand out leaflets and environmental freebies (recycled pens) designed to motivate your colleagues to improve their environmental performance.

To become an ECO, please contact Jaime Sullivan, Environmental Manager by e-mailing environment@bradford.ac.uk stating YES I want to become an ECO and include your works address and ext number. Alternatively contact Jaime by calling ext 3430.
