Beat the Stress, from Helen Crabtree, Staff Development

Stress Management Course
Wednesday 23 May, 30 May, 13 June and 20 June 2001, 9.30am-4pm at Heaton Mount
You need to be available for all 4 days to attend.

This 4-day course is being run by Helen Turner-Desai from the Centre for Continuing Education.

The aim of the course is to develop your knowledge and awareness of the cause, effect and management of stress situations in both work and non-work environments. We cannot always eliminate stress from our lives but we can change the way we react to it. Through a variety of learning methods, you will examine practical strategies and positive approaches to deal effectively with the stresses in your life.

The course covers topics such as:

  • What is Stress?
  • Looking after your Body
  • Looking after your Mind
  • Developing Social Support.

The course is open to all staff and is offered as part of the Centre for Continuing Education's Certificate in Personal and Professional Development Programme. Participants can gain 10 credits towards a certificate.

Data Protection Act/Human Rights Act, from Alison Carass, ASSU

As you may be aware, the 1998 Data Protection Act came into force on 1st March 2000. The amendments/extensions to the Act and the new Human Rights Act have implications for Higher Education and practices within the University.

I write to make all staff aware of the requirements, which relate to:

  • The way in which the University records and makes accessible to students decisions regarding their performance at Boards of Examiners and in particular, the consideration of Mitigating Circumstances.
  • The right of students to have access to comments made by Internal/External Examiners on examination scripts.
