Briefing Join the presenters from BBC1's Bang Goes the Theory on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 September as they recreate the best stunts from the TV show and challenge you to get hands-on with science. Changes to USS were decided by the joint Negotiating Committee (JNC) of USS at its meeting on 10 May 2011 and approved by the trustee board at its meeting on 9 June 2011. Some of the changes affect current members, other impact employees who join the scheme after the effective date of October 1st 2011.
All members who have more than 12 months membership of USS will have recently received their annual service statement, which included a pullout entitled ‘Important Information for USS members’. This document includes all the information that you need to be aware of around the imminent changes to the scheme.

After 35 years (and three days) of dedicated service, Derek Mason will be retiring from the University to pursue a life of leisure. All of his friends are invited to join him in the Amp Bar in Student Central on Friday 29 July from 3pm for a farewell drink and to wish him well in his retirement.
160 young people aged 14 to 16 from across the Yorkshire and Humber region will be taking part in this year’s University of Bradford residential summer school programme. There are five academic strands which the students will be taking part in these include:- Chemical and Forensics Science, Medicine, Aviation, Engineering and Performing Arts. The summer school will be taking place at various locations on and off campus.
On Tuesday 26 July there will be a crime scene set up in the Atrium. This will mean an area of the Atrium will be cordoned off and signs will indicate this is a simulation. Access will be maintained to the coffee and Union shop but seating will be limited as the scenes will take in the main seating/ table area. The young people will also have the opportunity to take part in a range of fantastic evening activities which include Team building on the amp and the summer school ball. The latest edition of The Braduate, the magazine for alumni and friends of the University is available online now. This year’s magazine features an interview with Honorary Graduate Kate Swann (CEO WHSmith), a ‘What’s on’ guide of alumni events, and a free fitness pass for Unique Fitness and lifestyle for all alumni.
Dr Janet Bujra and Professor Jenny Pearce will be talking about their work and their new book ‘Saturday Night & Sunday Morning: The 2001 Bradford Riot and Beyond’ at Waterstone’s, The Wool Exchange, Bradford at 6.00pm on Wednesday 20 July. Admission is free and all are welcome.
This week, Object 21 “Death and the Woolsorter” shows how Bradford doctors helped cure the scourge of Bradford’s wool workers, anthrax. And, available from Monday to tie in with graduation, Object 22 “Yorkshire Roses, in Steel”: meet a very special object, the University’s Mace.

The Equality and Diversity Unit in partnership with HR and the Respect Sexual Orientation staff network are once again preparing our application for a place on Stonewall’s prestigious Workplace Equality Index. The index represents the Top 100 Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual (LGB) friendly employers nationally.
Last year we submitted our first entry and achieved 104th place from a field of 400 applications. Top places went to the Home Office, Lloyds Banking Group, Ernst & Young, Hampshire Constabulary and IBM. The Universities of Salford, Liverpool John Moores, Cardiff and Cambridge also made it into the top 100.
If you would like to take part in our 2012 bid you can do so by completing an online feedback survey. This is open to LGB staff only and involves answering a few questions on Stonewall’s website www.stonewall.org.uk/wei2012/survey You will need our unique code to access the survey which is 317.

Staff from across the University have been involved in a three-year project exploring the final year experience. This is our first major institutional dissemination event where we will present the findings of the Outduction: Enhancing the final year experience project.

Due to recent improvement works, two concrete covered water tanks are now redundant and will be removed by specialists. Removal should start on Monday 25 July and should complete within two or three days. There is likely to be a noise disruption on the first day which is unavoidable but the remainder of the work should cause little disruption.
